Discerning Voices
The life we live is a journey. The Bible says we are pilgrims and sojourners in the earth. We are only passing through, trying to reach our final destination. Based on the decisions we make we are rewarded.
The greatest decision we will ever make, is to accept or reject God's plan of salvation.
Many have made a decision to accept that Amazing Grace of the Son of God. Yet, while on the road we find many choices and decisions that have to be made.
As born again believers we need to realize we have an enemy who does not want us to make Heaven our home. He does not want us to abide with Christ and become one with our Heavenly Father.
The enemy is an infiltrator and will do what ever he can to block and hinder our progress. As the prince of the air, he is working on the minds and hearts of men to cause them to make
decisions opposite of God's Word or desire.
Thereby causing faith to be made shipwreck in many who have believed.
1Ti 1:19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith
have made shipwreck:
We have to see the promises that are still afar off so we do not make choices that will cause us to be rejected. Today I want to touch on voices of influence and their power in our lives.
Voices are backed by words. When a person speaks, we hear their voice and we hear their words. Words have a root called motive. What is the motive of the heart, (secret agenda) that is speaking through the voice.
Advertisers want you to buy, pursuers of romantic interest want to catch the eye and heart of the one they are pursuing, teachers want to instruct, and the list goes on. When a voice is speaking we must discern its source and the motive.
When God speaks it is for our good.
Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
So what about when we hear other voices and when the devil speaks? God wants us to live and have life abundantly. The devil wants us to have death. The hard part though, is it never looks like death when it comes. It comes prepackaged and looks beautiful unless we apply what is presented through a testing process.
1Jo 4:1 ¶ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Some of our hardest trials will come, because we do not test.
TESTING VOICES So what should we look for when we hear voices? Let us take a look.
Jas 3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
Wisdom-the generally accepted belief, opinion, judgment, or prediction about a particular matter. So when
someone is speaking to us their wisdom, it is what they believe. We have to discern the source of their wisdom, to see if we should receive it.
According to James 3:19 we see four levels of wisdom.
1. Above- from above; by analogy, from the first; by implication, anew:--from above, again, from the beginning (very first), the top. This wisdom would be from our Daddy God. The First, the Beggining, the Alpha. This is the wisdom that must be first and foremost in our lives.
2. Earthly-worldly (physically or morally):--earthly, in earth, terrestrial. This pertains to fleshly and carnal understanding, the philosophies of men, false religions and demonically inspired revelations to men.
3. Sensual-natural, sensual. This speaks to sensuality and seduction. As pertaining to the natural man in sensual matters. There are three levels in the nature of men 1.spirit 2. natural and 3.beastly natures. We are to be transformed into the image of the Son of God.
4. Devilish- dæmon-like:--devilish. As pertaining to the nature and conduct of demons.
Once we can discern the source and motive, we can respond in a way that allows us to keep moving the
ways of the Lord. Jesus had to rebuke Satan on Peters behalf because Peter was not able to discern the voice
that spoke to him. Peter spoke out of his mouth what he had heard in his mind.
Mt 16:22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. (KJV)
Now that we have touched on voices let us touch on what might be in us they can tug on!
Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Mt 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart;
and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries,
fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. (KJV)
Mr 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (KJV)
So many are led astray because of the desires that are on the inside. If Jesus would of had any desire besides pleasing the Father, He would have fell for Satan's wisdom in the wilderness temptation. Thank you Lord for passing that test! Someone out there needs us to overcome or tests and temptations so that we can offer them the truth. May our desire to please God and be established in His Word preserve us from lies and deceptions in Jesus Name.
GIVE NO ROOM TO FALSE VOICES AND WISDOM THAT IS NOT FROM ABOVE
In His Service,
Apostle Jesse
